Layrd Design’s lead workplace interior designer, Eleanor Penny, presented her presentation on The Future Workplace at Future Spaces 2023.
The workplace must break down traditional barriers between work & life to meet the new style of working. The everyday workplace lacks privacy, flexibility and minimises the chance of organic collaboration. Open-plan offices often lack designated quiet spaces for focused work or confidential conversations, hindering productivity and well-being. Rigid schedules and fixed workstations restrict movement and adaptability, making it difficult to accommodate diverse work styles and personal needs.
Today's workforce seeks more than just tasks; they yearn for connection, growth, and a sense of community within the workplace. Rethinking office design with a focus on individual needs and preferences can foster well-being, engagement, and productivity. Providing a variety of spaces for different activities, from focused work to spontaneous collaboration, empowers employees to choose the environment that best suits their needs. Implementing tools that seamlessly integrate personal and work communication, while respecting boundaries, can facilitate a healthy work-life balance.
