Speaker Line Up for 2024


Our 2024 speaker line-up is set and we’re so pleased to have these individuals on board.

 

Immerse yourself in these thought-provoking talks from leading industry figures who will delve into a wide range of topics, from innovative materials to green building strategies to inclusivity and employee well-being.


 

Our opening keynote speaker is Sophie Schuller, Head of Applied Research at Cushman & Wakefield. Sophie has over 18 years of experience advising some of the world’s largest organisations on how commercial architecture, workplace design and the built environment influences human health and performance, including how design can be used as a tool to create economic environmental and social vitality. The opening talk for Future Spaces 2024 is titled ‘The Spaces that Shape Us: How our environments effect our brains, bodies, and behaviours.’



Nigel Silcock, Director at Exubia, will be presenting on Biophilia within Design. Nigel is an expert in the field of planting, boasting an impressive wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry. As a third-generation member of the family business, Nigel’s roots in the world of planting run deep, and his journey began over two decades ago when he first ventures into the industry.


 

Head of Ergonomics and Wellbeing at Orangebox, Jim Taylour, will be presenting on Life Centred Design strategies to support attraction and retention for all. Jim trained as a furniture designer and is a Chartered Ergonomist and has worked in the office furniture industry for 30 years both in a specialised occupational health capacity and in mainstream workplace design and research. This talk will get us thinking on Workplace or Learning Space and the role of design to enhance retention and growth.


 

Rebecca Lazar, Architecture & Interiors Business Development Manager at Technogym, has a passion for bridging the worlds of wellness and design. She brings a decade of experience working with landmark design brands to the world’s leading wellness company. At Future Spaces 2024, Rebecca will explore the new trends in wellness design and the important role that architecture and design have to enhance human health and wellbeing in private and public spaces.



With over 25 years’ experience as a mechanically bias consulting engineer, Tim Knights - Director at Hoare Lea, has a passion for sustainable and innovative engineering solutions that are sympathetic to both the environment and Client requirements. Tim will lead a presentation on decarbonising existing buildings and overcoming the challenges involved.



Our final speaker for Future Spaces 2024 is Shaz Hawkins, Segment Marketing Manager for Healthcare, Ages Care & Education at Tarkett. Shaz has been working in the built environment industry since 2010 and has experience in several projects that require a neurodiverse approach. Tarkett has collaborated with VR-EP to develop the world's first filter that allows users to experience what it's like to live with dementia. This innovative filter brings the built environment to life, allowing for better and more inclusive design. Shaz is currently working on expanding the virtual reality platform to accommodate additional neurotypes, such as autism and hyper- and hypo-sensitive individuals. Shaz will be closing Future Spaces with a captivating talk at the end of the day.



Layrd Design will also be hosting the event, along with an interactive workshop, where a case study presentation will follow.
